Ubuntu Irish translations.
We have been very active recently translating Ubuntu 9.10 into Irish and I created a page on http://ubuntu-ie.org/ about Irish translations of Ubuntu.
http://www.ubuntu-ie.org/node/36 Its in both English and Irish Dave from the loco helped out with the translation. I really hope we can get people interested and excited about using Ubuntu in Irish.

Here are the results of the poll on which dev environment I should use.
Gedit: 32% 72
vim or Emacs: 32% 71
Other: 25% 56
VB and eclipse: 11% 24
The others are:
Geany 21
Kate 7
NetBeans 7
jedit 2
MonoDevelop 2
Code::Blocks 1
slickedit 1
KDevelop 1
UEX 1
nano 1
Komdo Edit 1
IntelliJ IDEA 1
Kdevelop or Anjuta 1
KDevelop or QDevelop 1
SciTE 1
And what ever is left over was depends on what you are coding…etc.

Ill try Geany and see what I think of it. It was a fairly interesting result I have to say it was quite. What I learned is that everyone has a different idea on what is the best way to programme. So ill just have a look around and see which IDE or text editor I like.

I love Gedit. It has syntax highlighting for most languages and a spell checker. I feel thats all I need but one of my friends and one of my college classmates (Ilya) says im crazy and awkward for using it. The dev languages I know and have to programme from time to time in are mainly Java, Python and VB. Gedit has support for syntax highlighting for all of those languages.
I dont know maybe im being unreasonable but I think programming is easiest when its stripped down. Just you and the code. Of course tools can be helpful but refactoring isnt that hard and code completion is for lazy people.
Id love to hear what other people think so ill add a poll. Comment too please.
[polldaddy poll=1801105]
Update: I will reveal the results in two days. I will include peoples choices for the other category. All the results are very interesting so far I have to say.
