RE: Thoughts on flash

I fully agree with Steve Jobs about the problems with flash.
All of his points are correct but one of his points is very hypocritical.

  • He complains about Flash being a proprietary technology when most of the apple platform is proprietary.
  • He also complains about Adobe having complete control over the Flash platform, when apple themselves used their control over their products to block Flash coming to the iPhone OS platform.

The technology points are very correct Flash causes so many problems when browsing for me personally. Since I moved to AMD64 I have problems almost every time I browse sites that use Flash.

Adobe said that Flash is an open spec and that anyone can deploy it but it will never be as complete as Adobe’s own. If Flash is to survive the crossover to HTML5 they will need to make an open source version and allow community contribution to make it stable. Adobe said a few months ago (I cant remember the link) that the reason they cant open source it is because they have a H.264 decoder included in it. Just strip it out plain and simple.

I love some Adobe products like Flex, Dreamweaver and Photoshop. They are all fantastic programs but until Adobe get smart they wont survive without their main product. Plus I really hope they release the creative suite on Linux.

The Mono guys won’t like the “but it will never be as complete as Adobe’s own” argument ;)

But anyways Steve is full of S.

Well what I meant was that Flash is such a huge piece of software and its changing release on release so only Adobe can keep up with the changes because they are making them. With C# the language at a base level doesnt change too much so the mono guys can keep on top of the new things coming up and make new things themselves to the platform. Flash is a different animal.

It’s not hypocrisy, it’s strategy. I despise Flash. I love HTML5, theora, dirac, VP8, the whole works, and I look forward very much to the day we no longer need Flash.

Until that time I’m going to keep using it as a means to convince people to buy Android devices instead of Apple products.

Hypocrecy is the rule of this world.

Steve argue that they release as open source the next app: CUPS and Web-kit. So he can spoke loudly about open source. Kind of cynic…? i-phone was hacked and it can run android, so it
can run flash .(Other lie from Steve). lier too .. ?

Adobe argue that adobe postscript was release as open source long time ago. At least, they claim themselves as closed source and against HTML5(some honesty).

Both of them are closed source as hell. Nobody cannot state that M$ is open source b/c release 10.000 lines to the Linux kernel.

You cannot claim that adobe tech is bad b/c it is running in millions of computers. It is not perfect and far away from perfect. I do not develop with any adobe suite and I’m in favor of HTML5.

I’m in 64 and flash is running well so far, I attach the web for the plugin
