Google Chrome
I downloaded chrome from the dev preview thingy and I have to say im very happy. The level of detail is bloody awesome, like they added a repo for updates and they have an option to respect the gtk theme you have installed. I never thought chrome would be that unstable since the main engine is based on webkit which im a big fan of already. So all in all I like chrome and if there is a stable release version before lucid+1 id love to talk about including it by default.
chrome. google, Google Chrome, Ubuntu, webkit
The Linux (and Mac) beta versions will be released this month, so a stable version can’t be too far away. IMO, the browser’s ready right now, (Linux version, not Mac) as soon as the extension gallery is opened.
I think so too well except HTML5 ogg embed doesnt work at the moment they should just use gstreamer and get it over and done with.

I know about epiphany I did a post about a month ago about it. I disliked the UI but the engine was bloody awesome. I dont see what your point is.
I think he was probably referring to this comment which links to an upstream tracking bug listing the unresolved issues.
On the other hand, personally I don’t think we should wait on upstream for this. Better to write the appropriate patches and discuss them with upstream, keeping a copy in debian/patches until upstream applies something similar.
I should also mention that Chromium started segfaulting a few times a day here (a pretty low-memory machine) about two weeks ago. So I do not think it is totally rock solid yet — but that’s really a reason to get it packaged nicely sooner, so it’s easier for people to work on and fix.
Erm, this comment: http://lwn.net/Articles/364635/ . Sorry for the noise.
Yes, I noticed this. I’ve been on the Dev Channel on Windows for almost a year now, and the Linux Dev Channel since it came out, and I had never had a tab crash (though plugin crashes were quite common for a time). It has started acting up a lot within the past few weeks.
But I guess that comes with a channel that is updated bi-weekly with the newest features…and bugs.
afaik chromium still needs a decent mouse gesture extension like firefox’s firegestures. hard to use a web browser without them once you become accustomed to mouse gestures.

Chromium B.S.U. is better than Chromium!
I’m all for including Chromium instead of Firefox by default when there’s an official stable release. I’ve been using daily PPA builds for months now, and, despite getting occasional “Aw, Snap” messages, never looked back.
hi there,
hm, i like chrome as well – but maybe s.o. can give me a hint: when I enable the gtk+ – option, it turns purple behind the tab bar – ugly! wonder where it comes from?
my machine: mac mini core duo, intel graphics built in.
greetings,
christoph.
Been on it too for a while. I like it much better than firefox.
I use the chromium daily bulid from fta’s PPA right now and it’s excellent, although it crashes occasionally. But for inclusion in lucid, I would definitely be against inclusion of Chrome because of all the privacy concerns, but I would be for inclusion of Chromium, which AFAIK does not have all of Google’s branding and user tracking “features”
I dont think its as bad as people think. Personally I dont believe all the rumors about google tracking people.
There is an option to send tracking usage information to Google related to your platform… which is off by default.
Just like Ubuntu has popcon, Deluge, Mumble, etc. have this. But of course the paranoia gets into the sane peoples speech.
Chromium bundles almost all of its dependencies, which makes it a management nightmare in terms of security, bug fixes, and everything else. See what a Fedora dev says about it: http://lwn.net/Articles/364528/
