Brazilian Portuguese is done but I am not 100% confortable with my translation of “Parental Control” to “Bloqueador de Conteúdo”. I will discuss with some guys here.
Well whats great about the translation process is that you can apply the best translation by making sure it in proper context for your language.
I would love to translate, but I see Launchpad translation such a mess. Is it only for geeks. I just can’t figure out how to start translating in my language. Why isn’t such simple to have all languages displayed in the Language column and then I would just click on my language to start translating.
Hi,
I have managed to download .po file and translate it, but where is upload page. I really hate Launchpad. Bad design.
Can you please assist me, where is upload page?
just upload it here. Thanks for the help.I cant see whats wrong with launchpad translations. I think its a very easy to use interface. https://translations.launchpad.net/parental-control/trunk/+translations-upload
I’ve added my Portuguese (Portugal) translations.
I tried to upload, but above link reports error:
“Not allowed here
Sorry, you don’t have permission to access this page.”

Few months ago I have translated some other project, but if I remember correctly at that time at the project I used to translate all of languages was displayed by default, now only languages that have already done some translations are displayed.
Don’t know if this is per project settings or Launchpad in general changed.
Actually I don’t care much, because I like to download .po files and translate with translation program and then upload .po files.
Maybe the problem is, that I don’t have all privileged required and so I don’t see all links etc, so Launchpad is making my life harder. But I am logged in with my id, that I used to translate other projects.
Ah I know what was wrong go https://translations.launchpad.net/parental-control
Select the language.
Then at the top of the screen it should say upload somewhere.
Shane,
the problem is in the list of languages https://translations.launchpad.net/parental-control there isn’t my language listed! This must be some Launchpad trick.
Shane,
I have figured out what was the problem. I looked into my
language preferences:
https://translations.launchpad.net/~MY_USER_ID/+editlanguages
and there was info, that I don’t have a default language selected. This got to be some trick in Launchpad, because I have set this parameter few months ago, using some other project, it looks Launchpad lost this info for my userid. Strange.
Now when I type URL: https://translations.launchpad.net/parental-control I can see my language listed!
I clicked on my language and upload .po file and got message: That this translation file will be viewed inside one hour. What! This is not friendly at all – I should wait one hour to see if 5 translation strings got uploaded. Not friendly at all.
So I have clicked on my language in this parental control and copy/paste text strings from .po file I have downloaded and translated to Launchpad, clicked on Save button and that is.
I thought it would take me 5 minutes to translate, but now I see I have been working with the Launchpad system 10-times more time that I have been translating.
Well its made to lower the barrier for non skilled people but some still find the editing of .po files faster. I just like that they can change stuff and it auto generates everything for me. Its easy for developers more than translators at the moment at least.
Hi,
I have added additional language in my Launchpad preferences and now I can also see that language is listed parental-control language list. It took me 5 minutes to translate into second language.
It really takes 5 minutes to translate, but just to figure it out that you need to have language set in Launchpad it takes you lot lot lot more time.
Just can’t understand why all languages are not displayed in language list by default. Strange politics.
I think this settings alone has probably turn away multiple users before they figured out that some settings must be done in preferences window.

Hi,
funny think… I got one hour and half ago message from Launchpad:
“On 2009-11-11 13:25z (1 hours 28 minutes ago), you uploaded 6 Slovenian (sl) translations for parentalcontrol in Parental Control trunk in Launchpad.”
This is not user friendly, to wait 1 hour and 30 minutes to get translation accepted if it is uploaded with .po file.
Regards
Its not the slowest thing on launchpad. I had to wait for 14 hours to get my ppa built one day.
