Ubuntu 8.10 beta

Ubuntu 8.10 is nearly out so I will give a little review of it. I have been using it since the alpha came out. It has all the features you expect like open office(Although not 3.0), firefox 3, totem movie player and rhythmbox…etc. With the addition of a better network manger which includes 3g networing, vpn, openjdk installed by default and fixes for some anoying bugs like the one with pulse where you couldn’t listen to two things at the same time. The addition of 3g networking is the most useful of the new features, before I found it very hard to get it working and eventually found a utility that worked “wvdial” but there was a lot of problems with this. The main failure of this release is the login speed hasnt improved much but I hear that this is a critical task for the next version but it still has to be noted that it is login speed is still faster than windows. So its good a lot better than the last normal release (7.10).
